Turmeric shots are 2 oz drinks of turmeric juice, ginger and citrus, usually with a little black pepper. None of the three brands we checked prints how much curcumin a shot contains, so you cannot match one against the roughly 1,000 mg a day used in arthritis trials.
The black pepper is there for a real reason, but the study behind it used 20 mg of piperine. This is general information, not medical advice.
What is in three popular turmeric shots
US ingredient lists run from heaviest to lightest by weight. That makes the order a rough guide, the same label-reading habit behind our best protein bars ranking.
| Shot | Size | Turmeric on the list | Black pepper | Curcumin stated | Calories / sugar |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vive Organic Immunity Boost Original | 2 fl oz | 3rd of 6 | Last | No | 25 / 4 g |
| Pressed Immunity Shot | 2 oz | 2nd of 9 | Last | No | 25 / 4 g |
| Suja Immunity Turmeric Pineapple | 2 fl oz | 4th of 10 | Last | No | 15 / 3 g |

No shot leads with turmeric. Vive starts with pineapple juice, Suja with coconut water and Pressed with orange juice, though Pressed puts turmeric right behind it.
How much curcumin a shot has against the study amounts
Curcumin is a small fraction of turmeric. A 2006 lab analysis in Nutrition and Cancer by Tayyem and colleagues tested 28 spice products and found pure turmeric powder averaged 3.14% curcumin by weight.
USDA FoodData Central puts a teaspoon of ground turmeric at 3 g, which works out to about 94 mg of curcumin.
A 2016 meta-analysis by Daily and colleagues included 8 arthritis trials and pointed to about 1,000 mg of curcumin a day, or about 11 teaspoons of powder. It found support for turmeric extract, yet called the trials too few and too small for definitive conclusions.
Shots list turmeric root juice or turmeric juice, and no brand states how much goes in, so the dose per bottle is unknown. The trial amounts came from turmeric extract or pure curcumin, not juice.

What the black pepper actually does
A 1998 study by Shoba and colleagues gave healthy volunteers 2 g of curcumin. Alone, it left blood levels very low or undetectable; with 20 mg of piperine, absorption rose about 2,000%.
It measured blood levels, not any health outcome. Shots list black pepper last with no piperine figure, so you cannot assume the same effect.
NCCIH notes that oral curcumin products vary in how much curcumin they actually contain, that they often include piperine from black pepper, and that combining the two is one way to improve curcumin’s bioavailability.
Better absorption is not automatically better. The NIH’s NCCIH reports liver damage in some people who took high-bioavailability curcumin products. It also says early osteoarthritis results look positive, but the evidence is not yet strong enough to call turmeric beneficial for any health purpose.
Who should check before making it a habit
NCCIH lists nausea, acid reflux, diarrhea and constipation as possible effects. Turmeric supplements may be unsafe in pregnancy, and NCCIH says little is known about whether amounts above those in food are safe while breastfeeding. Some herbs interact with medicines, so ask your pharmacist or health care provider if you take any.
Stop and call your doctor if you notice dark urine, jaundice (yellowing skin) or unusual tiredness. The same gap between a drink and a trial dose shows up with ashwagandha tea benefits, where no clinical trial has tested the tea itself, only concentrated root extracts.
A shot can be a pleasant, low-sugar habit, not a fix on its own. Our look at the Amy Schumer weight loss before and after photos makes the same point about everyday habits.
Turmeric shots: quick answers
How much curcumin is in a turmeric shot?
The bottle will not tell you. Vive Organic, Pressed and Suja list turmeric juice among their ingredients but print no turmeric or curcumin amount. For scale, a teaspoon of ground turmeric holds about 94 mg of curcumin at the 3.14% average one lab analysis measured.
Does the black pepper in a turmeric shot help?
Piperine, the active compound in black pepper, raised curcumin absorption in a 1998 study, but that test used 20 mg of piperine with 2 g of curcumin. Shots list black pepper last and give no piperine figure, so the same effect cannot be assumed.
Is it safe to drink a turmeric shot every day?
NCCIH says conventionally formulated turmeric is likely safe in recommended amounts for up to 2 or 3 months, and that it can upset the stomach. It may be unsafe as a supplement in pregnancy, and anyone on regular medication should ask a pharmacist or doctor first.
